Why I bought an apartment in North Cyprus
Which of us does not dream of our own house on the shores of a warm, boundless sea. I did not dream – until that very moment, until I ended up in Northern Cyprus.
Having quite a weighty tourist baggage, formed over 12 years of traveling around the world, I always plunged into a new culture with interest, studied the life and traditions of different nations, collected impressions and compared the natural features of the places I managed to visit. Each trip was a revelation for me, but still I felt like a guest who had yet to return home.
It is worth noting that I have repeatedly rested in Cyprus, having spent a total of several wonderful vacation weeks in Ayia Napa, Limassol and Paphos. During one of these holidays, our company decided to go to the northern part of the island, and this turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life.
From tourists – to the natives, or why I decided to buy an apartment in Northern Cyprus
Firstly, the nature in the north of Cyprus, and especially beyond the Kyrenia Range, is strikingly different from the south, which is more like a scorched desert with small green oases in the hotel grounds. Northern Cyprus conquers with a riot of colors and a variety of landscapes – for example, the semi-steppe is almost immediately replaced by picturesque mountains covered with pine and cedar forests, and green valleys pass into citrus plantations. Rocky coasts break off, giving way to long white beaches and secluded bays, and a mixture of sea air with alpine and pine has a beneficial effect on the body.
The second thing I immediately noticed was a very clear sea. Perhaps because the northerners miraculously managed to preserve the pristine nature, the sea water here is actually more transparent than in the south of the island. And for the very first time, sunbathing on the soft sand of a wonderful beach in Alsanjak and walking along the ancient streets of the Old Town in Kyrenia, I realized that I wanted to stay here for a long time.
And a year later, I first thought about buying an apartment in Northern Cyprus. A weighty argument was affordable housing prices – one of the lowest in the Mediterranean. For example, an apartment on the coast here will cost the price of a simple “kopeck piece” in not the largest Russian cities, and you can buy a villa with a pool and a garden at the price of an unremarkable metropolitan apartment.
My one bedroom apartment is 56 square meters. m cost me 72.5 thousand euros.
There are other advantages that the status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has yet to be recognized – a European standard of living combined with relatively low prices for food and household goods, as well as a simple opportunity to obtain a residence permit for the whole family when buying real estate.

How I chose my home
Today I come to Northern Cyprus several times a year, as home – to my own comfortable apartment on the coast of Kyrenia. And then, while still a tourist and with little understanding of the intricacies of processing transactions with foreign real estate, I made another right decision – to seek the help of professionals. Buying real estate abroad only sounds complicated and may seem so to a foreigner who is unfamiliar with local laws and the market. That is why finding a good agency is a great success. A reliable company will not only help you choose the best housing option from the many attractive options, but will also take care of checking the legal purity of the transaction, paperwork, and will also advise on all issues in the after-sales period – up to choosing furniture or placing a child in a kindergarten. In my case, fruitful cooperation with managers at the stage of selection and registration of real estate has grown into a long-term pleasant and useful partnership. The agency took care of managing my property in my absence, and I receive additional income from tenants.
When I was a tourist, I traveled all over Northern Cyprus, and already had a good idea where I wanted to settle. Kyrenia from the very beginning attracted me with the beauty of nature, the cleanliness of beaches and the grandeur of the mountains. Yes, housing is a bit more expensive than in the tourist Famagusta and even in the capital Nicosia, but it’s worth it. Along with a good geographical location, the city is well developed infrastructure – schools and universities function here, there are shopping centers, cinemas, hotels and a casino.
The choice of suitable housing took only 3 days. I was looking for a budget and at the same time comfortable option with one bedroom, not far from the sea and the city center. The agency offered me some interesting options, in accordance with my requests, and every day, accompanied by the manager, I examined 2-3 almost perfect apartments. On the 3rd day I found her.
My apartment is located in Alsancak, in a residential complex located 10 minutes walk to the beach. On the territory of the complex there are: a swimming pool, a sauna, a gym, a playground and a restaurant.
